Reggie Berry
Football: Professionally Signed as an free agent with theDiego Chargers . There he played outstanding ball as a defensive back, receiving numerous special team awards. After three years with the Chargers, Reggie was traded to the Denver Broncos, and later played in the World Football League and Canada. Currently:
Education: Iowa State University, AZ Western Union College National Jr. College Champions, Long Beach State University, PCAA Champion 2 years in a row. All Conference Honors, Captain football team, Player of the Year Background: Reginald "Reggie" Berry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, one of five future athletes. Reggies older brother played football for USC and his youngest, for the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers. As the consummate high school athlete, Reggie led his football, baseball, and track teams to state championships and received "All Conference" awards in football and basketball. Reggie received an academic scholarship to New York City College, and full football scholarships to Iowa State University, as well as Arizona Western College and California State University at Long Beach.
Reggie left college to play professional football with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent. There he played outstanding ball as a defensive back, receiving numerous special team awards. After three years with the Chargers, Reggie was traded to the Denver Broncos, and later played in the World Football League and Canada before injuries forced his retirement. After football, Reggie returned to school and received a degree in Sociology. While working on his teaching credentials, Reggie accepted a position with the NFL Retired Players Associations Goals for Youth Program working as a mentor for at-risk migrant students. While working with Goals for Youth, Reggie was approached by the NFL Players Association to start a new intercept program, GOALS FOR LIFE, directed at all at-risk students regardless of class or ethnicity.
Reggie now serves as Vice President of the National Football League Retired Players Association of Los Angeles County. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Union Rescue Mission, a member of the Board of Trustees of Doctors Coast Plaza Hospital, a member of the Human Relations Board of the California Inter-Scholastic Federation, Southern Section, a member of the Board of Directors of the Aquatic Foundation of Metropolitan Lose Angeles, and a member of Board of Directors of TNT, the 24-hour Football Network. Because of his work with at-risk youth, Reggie was awarded the 1998 Human Rights Freedom Award issued by Freedom Magazine and was presented the 1998 California Inter-Scholastic Federation Community Service Award by Famous UCLA Coach, John Wooden. |
