Interview's Hall of Fame Football Coach Sid Gillman
Bob Petrich: Well Sid and Ester, thank you for allowing us in to your lovely home. Well Sid, you coached professional football for 18 seasons, 13 of those in
the AFL/AFC. What was your most difficult season, also in 1963, you led the Chargers to the AFL Championship with a 51-10 victory
over the Boston Patriots. Why did your team dominate that game by such a
lopsided margin? How good was that 1963 team compared to the other teams you coached? What was Jack Kemp like then? Was he a natural born Leader?
You had many great players, whom were the best players to ever play for you? You developed offensive strategies that revolutionized professional football
and still influence football today, some would say that you had spies at the
opposing teams practice. In reality, where did you get your information? You've always been a family man, and was once quoted as saying your
inspiration come from Ester and your four children. Why was your family so
important to you in your success? You won 5 AFL Division titles in the AFL's first six seasons, What do you
think was the contributing factor to your teams dominance in the Division? You were once quoted as saying: "God bless the old days, may they never return, players are better, coaches are better" Why and how are the coaches and players better? What opposing coach gave you the toughest challenge? In your opinion, who are today's best NFL coaches? Tell us the funniest story about that 1963 AFC championship team? Sids comments on Bob Petrich and the 1963 Chargers team.
Ester- What was it like being the wife of a professional football coach? What were the best (football related) things you remembered? What was one of the offensive strategies
Sid employed during his coaching years you recall and are still being practiced
today? How long have you and Sid been together? Only $ 14.95 A Limited Number Are Available.
