Bob Perone Listen to Coach Perone on GiveMeTalk.com discuss " Sports and his upcoming Weekly Coaches Tips-online August 2000." Born and attended High School in Reading, Pa. Named football All City and County QB. Played collegiate football at Penn State, however college was interrupted by call to military duty. Served in the WWII and Korean conflict. Alter discharge placed on reverse list of Philadelphia. Eagles. Played semi-pro football for Franklins, considered by many as a Farm team for Eagles in mid-1940's. Coached football at San Diego High School as a Head Coach of the Cavers. Lead team to their first playoff appearance in more than 25 years. Compiled best win loss record in 35 years. The program Coach Perone ran was more than winning football games. His firm belief was that high school football should help prepare the student for his life ahead, whether in college or in the job market. Bob became successful in a business career as corp., vice president and co-owner of Photic Corp. of San Diego. Bob's life changed forever in Aug. 1988 when his son, Kurt, was the victim of a random shooting. While some might have become embittered. Bob decided he wanted to do something positive for young men. He retired from his profitable business venture to devote all his efforts to coaching football at San Diego High. Bob made a vow to himself that the priorities of his program would be self-control, academics and urinning in that order. After instituting this philosophy he made the startling discovery that if you achieve the first two, self-control and academics, the winning often follows. Bob's success is evident by the number of players that have gone from gang members to college and subsequently graduated from such institutions as Univ. of Cal, UC Davis, UCLA, etc. Bob retired from San Diego High as head football coach and is now assistant football coach at Francis Parker High School, In his first year at Parker the team won the CIF Coastal League Championship. He also coaches track and field at Parker. Bob resides in San Diego with his wife Alma.
